The Top Secret To Curb Your Cravings!

The title sounds like a lie and a scam, the secret to stopping your cravings. All too often now, a new quick fix solution is marketed to build more muscle or lose more weight without investing too much effort. I run into these advertisements on a regular basis by running a personal training studio. It’s unfortunate for most of us but the real solution is hard work, often times restriction and a realignment of our priorities. Nothing worth having is generally given and easily obtained.

My claim is not scientifically backed but simply something I’ve noticed in my dieting experiences over the years. The top secret to curb your cravings is TIME! It’s that simple. I always eat very “clean” and very bland which may not work for everyone but it works for me. There are a few times per year on vacation and around Christmas were I simply eat whatever I feel like eating but for the rest of the year I have a goal in mind that falls under three different scenarios: lose fat, maintain my weight, or build muscle. These three things are different goals, they’re not the same. People aren’t going to get shredded with a 6 pack while massing up with more muscle tissue simultaneously, its impossible. Once goal is losing mass and one is gaining.

Back to the cravings…Whenever I have a cheat, or a vacation this free window of eating typically lasts 4-5 days. For the next two weeks that I’m back in Charlotte doing my normal routine I’m craving everything I ate on vacation, especially the “bad foods”. I think about them, I want them, it crosses my mind to get in the car and go get them…but I don’t. This period of wanting lasts about 2 weeks and it literally goes away. I may see a commercial for a Ribeye and want one but the strong urge to physically get in my car and make it happen isn’t very strong after weeks and months of eating bland. In my experience I think a lot of people new to dieting simply don’t get past this window of time. Possibly, it doesn’t exist for some people, maybe it’s longer or shorter for others but in my experience it’s tried and true. Two weeks.

If you keep falling off the wagon of your diet, then this may be a task you want to try out. It sucks, those first few weeks it is very hard to say no, it’s very easy to give yourself a pass. Most people probably do give themselves a pass and that would be reason #1 why their diet goal failed. Two weeks to get through, your cravings may not cease to exist but I would guarantee they’ll diminish to some degree.

The added benefit of “clean” eating, and bland eating is you’ll get a little less fluctuation in your scale weight when trying to assess whats working or not. This is likely due to less variation in sodium intake from more restaurant and processed foods.

Give it a try, just two weeks. If you fail, start again and don’t fail the 2nd time.
